London’s Victoriana beats new-build

Period properties in central London earned more for their buyers since 2009 than the new-build homes popular with foreign investors, according to research.

The value of homes in buildings constructed before 1900 in the most expensive neighbourhoods rose by as much as 78 per cent since 2009, compared with 46 per cent for new-build flats in prime central London.

Research by buying agent Huntly Hooper used data from Land Registry, stripping out properties built in the past 10 years to distinguish older homes from the recent wave of new-build construction.
