Ombudsman plans new buying agent code

The number of buying agents helping people to purchase expensive properties in London has soared in recent years – but many are not members of a consumer redress scheme.

Buying agents have traditionally been the preserve of wealthy property purchasers. They typically work on behalf of the buyer – in contrast to an estate agent, whose job is to obtain the maximum price for the seller. They help buyers – often people with a high public profile – through every step of their home purchase, from compiling a shortlist of properties to negotiating the best price and terms.
